A 4-part comic commission for 'Esteemed' written by =Destiny-Smasher.

This comic depicts a day in the life of Chief Toph Beifong, early into her motherhood. Toph's high profile job and the stress of dealing with her unexpected child without a father to help take their toll on our heroine's well-being, but thanks to her old friends, she learns to adjust to this new life, and the new person that is now in it.

when I was a newborn and in the incubator, my grandma was in the hospital at the time as well, and she would always come and sing to me at the same time every day to calm me down to help me sleep.

I rarely hear my grandma sing now, but hearing her tell me about this is a surprise to me.

People change as they grow, after all. I'm sure Toph would be no different in that truth. The way I tend to write Toph (as I did for this comic strip), I often like to represent some of the deeper complexity to her character rather than the barebones external 'look at me, I'm so tough' side that much of the fandom is obsessed with. She's a full human being with flaws and insecurities to match her strength and fortitude, and it's that duality that gives her a realism that's rife with potential to write about.

As the artist commented, 'we do things we don't expect from ourselves for the people we love,' and I think that's definitely something we'd see with Toph being the position of motherhood.

I like doing that with characters, too, in my fanfics. There's gotta be more to them then how they appear.
one person is a macho person who yells a lot? maybe that's how they r in public, but what about at home?

Who is Lin's father?

Doesn't everyone want to know? Haha.
I'm wondering when (and IF) we will ever find out about this. The current plan I have in mind for the story this comic strip is from is that Lin's biological father was sort of a very brief stint that Toph got involved with and came to regret -- a man who abandoned Toph when she was impregnated. Eventually, by the time Lin is a little older, Sokka will end up becoming a step-dad to her, more or less. This will be a reflection of my own reality, as I have never met my biological father and will never know him.

That last one made me tear up so fast it's stupid. You put so much tenderness into Toph here it's just beautiful.
